Description / History:
Early 20th century combination electric ophthalmoscope and otoscope package. Black leather case with green suede interior and exterior slide catch houses single battery handle and heads to perform the function of either an ophthalmoscope or an otoscope. Unfortunately, the ophthalmoscope heads for this set are missing. Otoscope head has two magnifying heads, one attached to the main body with a pivoting hinge, and is packaged with two aural specula of different sizes. Otoscope head inscriptions read: "Wappler E. Co. N.Y. Pat. Nov. 8 1910"

An otoscope or auriscope is a medical device which is used to look into the ears. Health care providers use otoscopes to screen for illness during regular check–ups and also to investigate ear symptoms. An otoscope potentially gives a view of the ear canal and tympanic membrane, or eardrum.
