Description / History:
A collection of twentieth century orthopedic instruments:
A. Lumbar Lamina Spreader made by Codman product no. 61–1026. The Lumbar Lamina Spreader is used for spinal procedures.
B. Devilbiss cranial rongeur manufactured by Codman. As a substitution for the trephine in neurological operations, the Devilbiss cranial rongeur was used to separate the dura mater from the skull.
C. Van buren sequestrum forcep. The inside beak is horizontally serrated and it opens vertically. The handle is curved with metal grooves.
D. Surgical forcep made by Allen & Hanburys Ltd in England. Double handed forcep with two rings per handle and an interlocking ratchet. This instrument is used to compress or hold large tissues and organs. It has a curved beak with extended "arms" for grip support.
E. T–shaped forcep. The instrument is used to grasp tissue or organ. The handle has an interlocking screw and "PAT. PEND" printed on the hinge of the device. The beak has a t shape with sharp teeth on the inside.
F. This is a stainless steel self retaining clamp with adjustable screw lock. The instrument was manufactured by Sklar. The beak of the device has blunt interlocking teeth and the inside of the beak is horizontally serrated.
