Description / History:
Twentieth century hip and knee prosthesis. In this collection, there are one adult and one child's hip prosthesis, and one knee prosthesis. When the respected tissue is worn, damaged, or diseased; a (hip or knee) replacement is done to removed the impaired tissue and substituted with an artificial body part. The prosthesis is made of cobalt (chrome).

For a hip replacement, the femur head (ball) would be inserted into the acetabular cup and liner. The femoral stem would be implanted into the femur, while the acetabular cup would be placed into the hip joint. During a total knee arthroplasty, the stem of the fermoral component would be incorporated into the bottom of the femur. The femoral component and tibial component would be separated by a plastic joint liner.
