Pulmonary medicine is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases affecting the lungs. Also called Pulmonology, the science is concerned with the anatome, physiology, and pathology of the lungs.
While one of the first major discoveries relating to pulmonology was the discovery of pulmonary circulation, it was not until the 1950s that pulmonary medicine began to evolve as a medical specialty.
