Description / History:
A heavy brown fabric sphygmomanometer cuff with metal snaps to adjust cuff size. Also includes a metal aneroid manometer gauge with connecting rubber tube in a brown leather pouch. It is missing the inflation bulb. The sphygmomanometer was used to determine a persons blood pressure by measuring the mean arterial pressure in addition to calculating the systolic and diastolic measurements. To determine blood pressure, the cuff was placed snugly around the arm at the height of the persons heart. Pressure is then increased when the inflation bulb is pumped, putting pressure on the arm, thus cutting off the blood flow and allowing the doctor to read the pressure of the arteries.
