19th century ceramic pharmacy jar with lid. Jar is labeled KINO and includes hand painted leaves and crown in blue and gold. Bottom of jar is labeled Kr. I 250, Bogen Germany. Lid of jar is rimmed in gold. The glaze on the jar shows extensive cracks

KINO is a dark red resin obtained from various tropical plants and used as an astringent. Recently, kino has been linked to a 19th century recipe for the "Elixir of Life", classed as a miracle cure, enabling people to avoid death. In addition to Kino, the recipe includes several herbs as well as a large amount of alcohol.
