Oxophenarsine Hydrochloride, or Mapharsen is an arsenic based compound that was used in the early to mid 20th century in the treatment of syphillis. Although toxic, it was considered less toxic than other treatments while being a more effective treatment. However extended usage was considered highly carcinogenic.
