Description / History:
This black laquered, Metallic Ore Polarizing (MOP) microscope was produced by the Optic Institute of Ernest Leitz in Wetlzar, Germany. This model, used popularly in the 1940s and 50s, had many geographical uses. These special polarizing microscopes allowed for geologists and mineralists to determine several speicmen parameters quanitatively with the same instrument. According to the object serial number (370993), the microscope was produced some time between 1941 and 1945.
