Description / History:
Mid to late 18th century doctor's wooden medicine chest with a brass handle at the top. Also the front has a brass sliding closure. The chest contains empty glass medicine bottles with glass stoppers. The chest has a sliding back panel (a hidden compartment) which was used by doctors to store poison.

This medical chest was typical of the chests carried by physicians and surgeons during the Revolutionary War.
