Description / History:
An early–to–mid 20th century metal Schiøtz Tonometer. The instrument was used to measure the intraocular pressure, the fluid pressure in the eyes. It is a useful diagnostic test for patients who are at risk of developing glaucoma. The tonometer was stored in a small black leather box with blue felt interior.

The Schiøtz Tonometer was developed in Norway by ophthalmologist Hjalmar August Schiøtz who developed the instrument in the very early 20th century.
