Description / History:
The perimeter was a diagnostic eye exam instrument used to detect dysfunction in central and peripheral vision. The test was performed by keeping the patient's gaze fixed while presenting objects peripherally (through rotation of the instrument) within their visual field. Medical conditions such as glaucoma, stroke, brain tumors or other neurological deficits were able to be detected with the use of a perimeter.
