Description / History:
Set of two 18th – 19th century wig spectacles. Wig spectacles are made with sliding temples with a loop on the temple end so that they can be inserted into a wig. These spectacles were very popular in high society circles with many wearing them even though they did not need glasses.

One pair is made with brass frames and round lenses and dates from 1725 to 1820

The other is made of a gold metal frame with octogonal lenses. This second one also includes a hard leather case and dates from 1835 to 1880.
