Description / History:
Small brown leather pocket kit for surgical instruments. Inside flap reads, "E. A. Yarnall/
Surgical Instruments/ 115 S. ––––– St. Phila.
Instruments include arterial forceps, scissor forceps, male and/or female catheters, an instrument used in tongue–tied surgery, and a few other unknown instruments. The inside pocket holds a packet of surgeon's twisted silk and a cloth filled with needles: both used for stiches.
While this kit is dated between 1875 and 1889, pivot screws (like the one found in the scissors) were not popular between 1880 and 1890, suggesting this kit may have been made between 1875 and 1880. The silk packet is dated from 1887 to 1909, meaning the owner definitely had it between these dates.
