Description / History:
This all brass apothecary scale was a gift of Dr. Edgar Meiser. It was made in the first half of the 20th century by Henry Troemner in Philadelphia, PA. Troemner was a German–American entrepreneur who started the Henry Troemner Company, known today as Troemner Inc. Apothecary scales were used by pharmacy chemists in measuring medical compounds and for other purposes in drug stores.

Additional Information:
In 1946, Dr. Meiser became the director of the polio unit at Lancaster General Hospital until its closing in 1957. This unit was governmentally designed for Lancaster and later Lebanon County, where Dr. Meiser oversaw the diagnosis and care of polio patients.
