Description / History:
Clear glass pharmacy bottle labeled Spir. Ammon. Ar. The bottle is mouth blown glass with a clear glass stopper. The label is white with gold trim and affixed under a thin concave piece of glass.

Spirit of Ammonia was made from a distillation of an ammonia solution from shavings of deer horns and hooves during the 17th and 18th centuries. The common use of spirit of ammonia during the Victorian Era was to revive fainting women.

Now called smelling salts, they are still used by many athletes to restore mental alertness.
