Also known as pentamethyletetrazol, metrazol is a drug used as a circulatory and respiratory stimulant. metrazol was found to cause convulsions, resulting in its experimental use in the 1930s to study seizures and in convulsive therapy. It was replaced by electroconvulsive therapy in mental hospitals in 1939. In 1982, because of the side effects associated with it, the FDA revoked the approval of metrazol.
