Barbisodite was a barbituate that aided in sleeping (hypnotic). In the early 20th century, Barbisodite was a major improvement over other drugs that had been used for sleep aid. Prolonged use of the drug resulted in tolerance, which required a higher and potentially toxic dose to achieve hypnosis.
The medicine were green colored circular pills that came in a clear glass bottle with a metal screw top. The metal screw top had two indents which aided in opening the bottle and retrieving the medication.
