At the Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum (LMHM), we believe that preserving and sharing our community’s medical history is a team effort — and we couldn’t do it without the passion and dedication of our volunteers and interns. Whether you’re a student eager to gain hands-on experience or a community member looking to give back, there’s a place for you here.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting the museum’s mission to preserve, educate, and inspire. Volunteers assist with a variety of projects, including:

• Cataloging and collections care

• Exhibit installation and interpretation

• Research and archival organization

• Educational programming and event support

• Administrative or visitor engagement assistance

No prior museum experience is necessary — just enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn!

Internship Opportunities

LMHM proudly partners with local colleges and universities to offer meaningful internships for students interested in history, museum studies, public history, archival science, and related fields. Interns gain hands-on experience in areas such as:

• Artifact cataloging and digital archiving

• Exhibit design and interpretation

• Collections research and documentation

• Public programming and community outreach

Internships can be completed for course credit (if approved by your institution) or on a volunteer basis. Each internship is tailored to align with the student’s academic goals and professional interests.
