Our Mission

The Edward Hand Medical Heritage Foundation, now the Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum, was founded in 1982 with a mission to preserve and make accessible the rich heritage of the healing arts, with special attention given to Lancaster County.

With this mission in mind, the Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum opened in Burle Industrial Park in 2010 to display and share the collection of over 11,000 artifacts. The museum has become a place to share Lancaster county’s rich medical history, as well as, providing a home base for medical and historical research through its internship program.

Our research, done by student interns, medical and surgical specialists, local historians and others, has produced dozens of scholarly articles on the history of medicine and medical institutions in Lancaster county and surrounding areas.

The Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum is a great addition to the many historical and cultural institutions in Lancaster working to preserve and share this county’s unique history.

Executive Director

As Director of the Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum, Erin is honored to steward one of the region’s most unique cultural institutions—dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of healing in Lancaster County. With a background in American history, archival research, and strategic marketing, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to nonprofit leadership that blends storytelling, community engagement, and operational strategy.

In this role, Erin oversees museum operations, develops exhibits, coordinates public programming, and builds partnerships that amplify the museum’s mission. She’s passionate about making history accessible and relevant—whether through educational outreach, digital content, or collaborative research with students and medical professionals.

Her work is guided by the belief that history isn’t just what we preserve—it’s how we connect, inform, and inspire the community today.
