Description / History:
General surgical instruments wooden kit painted red with gold accents and a green velvet interior. Top of kit engraved with the name J. Musselman. Sold through Gilderd & Monroe's Drug and Medicinal Store on Market Street, Philadelphia, PA. Object No. is 333.

Instruments include ivory handle scalpels and hooks, a double blade hook, a simple hook, needles and a few double blade tortoise shell scalpels (located in interior pocket). Ivory handle tools were made by Weigand & Snowden, one of the most respected manufactures in the eary– mid 19th century. The two partners eventually split in 1855, leaving Snowden the company who then went into debt and lost it in 1857. His family stepped in and took over under the name Snowden & Brother in 1858.
