Description / History:
Wooden tracheotomy set with purple cloth and brown velvet interior. Instruments used as the only treatment for Diphtheria patients. At the time, the treatment was only seen as temporary until the patient, hopefully, recovered. Instruments include an introducer, an extractor, a scale and two larynx tubes.

Maker's mark located on the inside of the top half of the box and reads, "Chas. Lentz & Sons/ 18 N. 11th St./ Philadelphia". Charles Lentz was a well–respected manufacturer in his day after he started his business in 1875. He moved his business to 11th St. in 1885, where his sons joined him in 1887.

Although this set is dated up until 1914, due to the similarities between the instruments and the Lentz 1892 catalogue, this kit was most likely made in the 1890s.
