Description / History:
Twentieth century stainless steel citelli ronguer (or citelli punch) manufactured by Codman & Shurtleff. This instrument is used for nasal reconstructive and osteotomy procedures. As an example, dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery is a treatment to restore the flow of tears into the nasal cavity from the lacrimal sac because the nasolacrimal duct is no longer functioning. During DCR surgery, the citelli punch is used to remove part of the ethmoid bone to create a direct passage for tears from the nasolacrimal duct to the nasal cavity.
