Description / History:
This white colored cast iron and brass patient scale was created by Fairbanks & Company in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. This scale was used to weigh patients in doctor's offices. A patent date of March 8, 1896 was engraved in the top of the scale. These scales were most likely manufactured up until 1916 when Fairbanks & Company merged with Morse to become Fairbanks–Morse. This particular scale has "Fairbanks" engraved in the base, after Morse took over the company the label changed to read "Fairbanks–Morse" in a globe and black pads were added to the base for comfort instead of the solid iron base.
