In general terms, a curette is a surgical instrument used to scrape and remove tissue from
the skin or body cavities. The circular blade is sharp on the inside and dull on the outside,
limiting damage to surrounding tissue. There are three primary types of curettes. Ear curettes, are used to remove many different forms of ear tissue, most commonly earwax. Dermal curettes are used to remove undesired tissue from the skin, such as melanoma. Uterine curettes take tissue samples from the uterine area and assist in the detection of uterine cancer.
