Description / History:
19th century pharmacy bottle of Bay Rum. Bottle is mold blown glass with a glass stopper.

The label is from Fisher Scientific Co in Pittsburgh, Penna and Elmer and Amend in New York. Imported from St. Thomas, 51 percent alcohol. For external use only.

During the 19th century, Bay Rum was used as a fragrant underarm deodorant and in cosmetics. Its medicinal use was as an astringent. It was highly poisonous and only to be used externally.
