Description / History:
In this collection there are six cylindrical bottles. Each bottle is made of hand–blown glass dating these bottles to the early 1800s. Each bottle also has a label. These labels contain a black and gold border and a unique design surrounding the name of contents in the bottle. Below is a brief description of each bottle and their original contents.

Bottle A: This bottle contains a label reading "Tinctura Cinchonae." also known as tincture of cinchona. A tincture of cinchona is used as a substitute for a mild tonic. It is also used in a lot of herbal remedies. There is not much left in the bottle however the bottle has been stained a dark red/brown color.

Bottle B: Bottle B contains a label reading "Elixir Sodii Bromidi," also known as sodium bromide elixir. Sodium Bromide elixir was widely used in the 19th and 20th century as an anticonvulsant and sedative. The bottle is approximately 1/3 full of its original contents, a yellow liquid.

Bottle C: Bottle C contains a label reading "Elixir Pepsini Compositum," also known as composition pepsin elixir. Pepsin is used in the human body as a digestive enzyme to break down proteins in the foods that we eat. Pepsin is used as a medicine to assist the stomach in breaking down food and relieving heart burn. There is small amount of dark liquid in the bottom of the bottle.

Bottle D: Bottle D contains a label reading "Elixir Terpini Hydratis," also known as terpin hydrate elixir. Terpin hydrate is an expectorant clearing the mucus out of airways and to relieve coughing.

Bottle E: Bottle E contains a label reading "Tinctura Lavandulae Composita," a lavender tincture. Lavender is used in homeopathic medicine as a stimulant, atonic, and carminative. Today, it is still used as a therapeutic for wounds, inflammation, eczema, and dertimitis. The base appears to be dyed a pinkish–red color.

Bottle F: Bottle F contains a label reading "Syrupus Glycyrrhizae," also known as licorice syrup. Licorice syrup is used to treat sore throat, congestion, and coughing. It is made with licorice root, sugar, and honey. There is a small amount of dark syrup remaining at the bottom of the bottle.
