Atonic Dyspepsia is commonly known as indegestion and characterized with impaired tone in the muscular walls of the stomach. A common dose of the medication was one or two tablets after meals, repeating in an hour if necessary. The bottle containing the Atonic Dyspepsia medication was mouth–blown brown glass, common in the mid–19th century, with a cork stopper as the lid. The small size of the bottle indicates it was likely a household item, used when a family member was experiencing indigestion.
