Diothane was a local anesthetic developed in the late 1920's. The anesthetic came in crystalline form and was required to be solubilized with warm water to make the anesthetic solution. Diothane solutions were non–irritating, stable and boilable making them common in procedures requiring local anesthetics the 1930's and '40's. The diothane crystal container was made of clear glass and a black bakalite screw–top, and contained 5 grams of diothane crystals.
